Carolyn Chapman

Carolyn Riley Chapman is a student in the Masters of Bioethics program at Columbia University.  She graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College with high honors in Biology, and completed a Ph.D. in Genetics at Harvard University.  Carolyn has worked at L.E.K. Consulting as a business strategy consultant in the biotech/pharma industry.   As the third employee at Aton Pharma, a start-up that developed a cancer drug discovered in Columbia and Memorial Sloan Kettering laboratories, she witnessed a biopharmaceutical company grow from the ground up.  As a freelance writer, she has published articles in Start-UpDrug Discovery & Development, and Genetic Engineering News.  She has also explored creative writing (through classes at Sarah Lawrence College’s Writing Institute) and spirituality (completing two years of a four year lay Christian theological certificate program called Education for Ministry).  She is interested in bioethical issues raised by genetic testing and reproductive technologies, as well as ethical issues that arise in pharmaceutical drug pricing, and research and development.
